“The Model Folk were brilliant at our wedding party in Dorset in August 2018. By the end of their second set they had nearly everyone dancing, from toddlers to septuagenarians. It was a festival-type wedding and they started by leading a procession of 60 kids in fancy dress around the camping area. They then led everyone back to the stage area and played their own version of a Bob Dylan song that we’d requested for our first dance. From then onwards, it was into their own songs from their two albums. For those who don’t know their music well, they strike a great balance of slower numbers to get people gently jigging to really lively ones that – in our case at least – had everyone twirling around like whirling dervishes, particularly during the encore of Nipples for Men. We first saw them at Purbeck Valley Folk festival where they stood out as being awesome fun during a daytime set. In our view they are the perfect wedding band for those who like their music and want something more fun and original than the usual wedding bands. Importantly for a wedding, they were also brilliant to deal with from beginning to end and were very low key in setting up and packing away. “The Model Folk played our wedding. They were brilliant. We first saw them in our local pub, where we danced and laughed and sang. Bought their album and started listening to it in the car. When we were planning our wedding we knew we wanted a band rather than a ceilidh, something original, folky, and dancable….. what about The Model Folk? If you’ve not seen them, they are great. From the first dance to the final encore the dance floor was full (and we were the only ones who knew their stuff). They started the set out in the crowd playing an acoustic intro, which was fabulous and really broke to ice and enchanted everyone. From the practical end of things, they were easy to deal with, quick to reply to emails, polite and friendly throughout. They have a good set up with lights and P.A. equipment. Stumbled upon this last night. What a hell of an evening! These boys are as lovable as talented, with an ease and self-deprecation that is warm and charming. Playing in the crowd it felt more like a family get together than a gig and with tunes like ‘naked in the kitchen’ and ‘nipples for men’ it had even the most po-faced aunty smiling and tapping her feet.
